Make No Mis-Steak About it, Cross Roads Steak House is Mooooovin on up

I was Kickin it around town earlier this week remembering the days of going to the Pastime eating great food in that part of down town, old brick buildings, just something about it, so when I found out that Cross Roads Steak House was up and running in the Dacres Building with a lounge on one side, I had to go check it out..

they had basically just opened up this week without announcement so they could work the bugs out, but by today the word was out, happy hour drink and food specials was what I was looking for,so I grabbed an Ice Harbor IPA and had the Steak Bites. before my order arrived I thought "I wonder if it is going to be some cat terd looking crinkle steak like some places serve" and when it showed up, I instantly became totally stoked on what I was looking at, actual steak cut into nice bite size battered and fried to perfection served with basically house sauce, these tender bits of wonderful morsels of steak were very tasty and I wish I had a plate of them right now ..

Now just look at those, you know you wish you had some right now. no knife needed, very tender, not a grease puff either. The Kitchen is set up for pumping out the food, steak house style

We also ordered a Cowboy Cobb Salad and it was not disappointing at all.

we sat in the bar area since it was happy hour and thats where people were gathering to have a good time, I saw new and old faces and they all were smiling

Cross Roads Steak House offers a Private Dining Area for special events and parties

very spacious open dining area with plenty of room
I am really glad to see this restaurant move to a location that is more of their type of business, the old location was holding them back and wouldn't allow them to reach full potential and didn't feel like a steak house it felt like a cafeteria at a golf course.

If your favorite animal is steak, then this is the pet store!
and on that note I will be Mooooovin on.. cheers - jody

Hey Cujini , Bada Bing!

So Im getting ready to fire up my brick pizza oven and Im thinking, I need some of the best ingredients available for my pizza's today, so there is only one choice and thats Cujini Import Italian Foods on 960 Wallula Ave, Walla Walla WA. This isnt just a cheese tray store, it is full service Italian food you can take home ready to eat! take it home, and make your own, they have all sorts of Authentic dishes frozen for you to cook yourself.
They have Panini's, Ravioli, Carbanara, Rigatoni, Seafood Linguini, Lasagna, just about everyting you could imagine. they serve wine from Italy and Walla Walla. They make their own salami and import others.

The selection of cheeses are plenty, they will slice up how ever much you want right there at the deli counter

The food is hand made from old family recipes right there, if you want they will make you a cheese plate and you can sit out back and drink some wine on the covered patio while enjoying great conversation with your friends.. most of all are the meatballs they make, grab a bag, some pasta and sauce and you have the best dinner at home and your friends will be impressed.

Needless to say they hooked me up with some Pizza dough,
sauce and good toppings for my pizza's today.
 Until Next time, Salute'

Lunch Craving abolished by Sweet Basil Pizzeria

You know how it is, when you just have a craving for a certain pizza, one you have had before and nothing else will do? Well...I'm talking about the Potato Pizza at Sweet Basil Pizzeria. Hand tossed right in yo face! These guys make
fresh made pizza dough daily, and the freshest ingredients possible in their salads and pizza's. this is not a greasy pizza, it is a thin crust style that has a very nice crunch to it. with toppings that are good for you.

There is parking on the street on first or behind the building and you can come in the back door and when you do, one of the best smells hits you in the face and that is fresh pizza in  the oven. you can buy it by the slice or by the pie, they have Great Beer on tap by Ice Harbor Brewing and they even sport their own signature beer "Basil Brew" plenty to choose from but I knew what I already wanted and that was the Potato N Cheese pizza with green onions all over it, had to have it, and it was the bomb. potato's are garden fresh thin sliced Yukon golds and red's. Now look at that.you just don't know unless you have one..

Sweet Basil Pizzeria is Located on
(509) 529-1950
They are right down town across from
the coffee perk. they have Calzones

and salads also..

I give this place my seal of approval for places to go and eat in Walla Walla!
Family Atmosphere and Kid friendly. Until Next time ..Cheers - Jody

Feast This Walla Walla - Sterlings Stepping up to the Plate

Sterlings Steak, Seafood and Salad Bar has opened up and it hasn't been 5 days and Im there!, This place was slammed! I had reservations for 18 people once I found out they had a private banquet room in the back for my wifes birthday party. We drank several bottles of wine from walla walla valley while we indulged on the many choices of food they had to offer. I had a 120z Prime Rib with Pasta, Clam chowder, and Cheese Cake for dessert. the picture might be out of focus but the quality wasn't.
Located on West Pine in the old Elmers is a perfect location. they offer breakfast till 2:00 pm and they have Pie!! anyway soon after we ordered our food it arrived one after another so we all ate at the same time. the Owner and staff are very friendly and professional making sure we had everything we needed.
Everything is made at the restaurant, fresh bread, Gumbo, Clam chowder, and they have a nice big salad bar.. something we needed in Walla Walla. the building is parked right in front of 2 nice motels so it is a perfect choice for the traveler who doesn't have time to seek out breakfast or dinner. next time I am going to have the Country Fried Steak or the Steamer clams.

A big bonus is that this place is Child friendly, not a bar like most of my reviews and as you can see my grandson Gavin, who if he had teeth would be gettin busy on that fresh baked bread.

Sterling Silver may be a Second place award at the Olympics, but in this case you get the Gold!. Thanks for helping me make a great time for my wifes birthday! until then Salute'

Special of the Day...Stone Hut!

My wife and I have had a craving for chicken strips with fries for a couple of days now, we were disappointed the first night because they were not available at the "Steak House" we went to.. no problem had a couple beers and went home, so today is the next day and we decided to continue this quest for the perfect chicken strips with fries, I know stone hut is putting out some good eats knowin the owner is all about quality control and offering a great experience, this shows by the amount of HDTV's are running and on many sports channels offering mixed drinks, beer and wine.. we got settled in and I saw on the board Daily special, so im going to dedicate this review to the Daily Special.. I picked the Chicken Cordon Bleu on Focaccia Bread with the fries.. and had 1 Terminal Gravity IPA before the arrival of this great sandwich..

Then 2 More for dessert, I actually moaned something out loud when I took my first bite and it was totally not a voluntary response.. I have witnesses as you see their delicious personal pizza in the back ground.

Due to the lighting in the bar we couldn't really capture the true essence of the sandwich visually, but believe me, its packed full of goodness. I ate the whole thing and the fries.. for the Stone Huts special of the day I would say its a big plus..Just a Chip away from the Walla Walla Country Club in the heart of the Plaza Way area. my guests had butterflied prawns and Personal pizza from the menu..

Green Lantern is Open for Lunch

Well its March Madness Basketball Season and the Green Lantern has a great lunch for you. after re-cooping from St Patty's day last night (doing the Walla Walla in my Hop Hat I needed something to eat) so I grabbed a couple of friends who were with me at the scene of the crime last night and headed for the green lantern lunch break. I had the Prime Rib French Dip with fries on the side, this definitely was not lacking in portions as you can see below
the toasted bun was nice and crunchy on the edges and everything went down like I had never eaten before. The place was getting so busy they had to call in for more staff and the food was Great! the other sandwiches on the lunch menu are also the bomb, so your gonna have to come back a few times to have them all...

PHILLY STEAK SALAD !

So I stop by Fat Cats Tavern to discuss their party this Saturday and hollie asked me what I wanted for lunch. Oh I better take a break on all this killer food and she suggested a salad. and Im thinking hmm yea thats healthy cant get into trouble with that, then she said how about a "STEAK SALAD!" and Bam! I was in.

This salad has everything in it a cow would eat and the cow. it is Philly steak meat over a mountain of lettuce, olives, onions and green peppers. seasoned grilled bread and plenty of dressing of your choice. sure makes eating healthy allot easier.

Darrell whom will remain nameless in this story said, "Lets Call Craig at MR Eds and see whats for breakfast, Damn boy aren't you hungry?" and so I gave in.. know'n Po Potter and I go way back I ordered something that wasn't on the menu ( I bet it is now) I asked for  "The Pastrami Breakfast Extravaganza Throwdown Boo Ya-." this was 2 Eggs, Skillet fried Potatoes (seasoned) mixed with folds of IN House Made Pastrami, Grilled Green peppers and onions Topped with Provolone Baby.. and over the top was Rye Toast, horse radish and hot mustard.

Mr eds has relocated at the elks recently until their Restaurant recovers from its recent fire, im tellin ya, the effort they put into their food to make sure it is as home cooked and by far a filling Meal as you would expect. This is what keeps em coming back.. they are anxious to get back in their original building so they can gaze at the blue mountains while serving their patrons once again..

A Mammoth Sewer Rat was found at local Winery (Undisclosed) and removed from premise. I asked the grounds keeper how did you know it was from france? and he replied I cought him in the Merlot Tank of course and he was setting there with those beedy eyes, and kept saying "we we" or something like that. I asked him how did you catch such a elusive creature and he said, "I made a trail of corks freshly pulled from some of the finest Mourvedre ever!"  then hit him with my mash paddle, Wham! ..the grounds keeper claims he didnt put up much of a fight, then pissed himself and it was over.  well that was pretty exciting and enough for me.. until next time Cheers!

Move On to the Red Monkey..

So we left the Green and since we split the fish and chips we thought," Hey lets go to the Red Monkey Down Town Lounge, get one of those killer appetizers to top off the night, and taste some beers, see the people" Great idea, so we just pop on down and start in. since we were in the sea food mood we had what they call the Shrimp Shrimp it was like a seafood dessert to me you be the judge.

You know you want some..

now this hit the spot and gave me room for more beers.. didn't feel guilty at all so you know its all good..we ran into the owners of Cougar Crest Winery and had a pretty good time.. who knows maybe I will hit Tommy's Dutch Lunch for Breakfast.

Green Lantern Fish & Chips

you know when you just gotta have something you have had before and want it again?.  Im Talkin Green Lanterns Fish & Chips.(1606 East Isaacs Avenue Walla Walla, WA 99362-2206 - (509) 525-6303) My wife came home and pretty much claimed the taco's from LaMonarca so I was thinking mmm haven't been to the Green Lantern in awhile, sure miss them fish and chips, so I made her drive..the green lantern tavern is a landmark amongst other great pubs in Walla Walla, nothing like going 4 wheeling on the weekends and then all getting together afterwards to drink beer and laugh. The owner has done the best job in keeping it a great place.you can shoot darts, pool, and watch sports tv.  plenty of taps of the finest microbrews available and always great IPA, Scotch, Whiskey and Wine. so back to the Fish and chips, they were great, the green lantern cuts their own fries and the fish is good. I will let the picture do the talkin.

This was de lish.. I also recommend the Fish Taco, very good, I actually should of had 2 on the side.
So after that we decided to move on....

LaMonarca Taco Wagon from the West Side

Hands down this is the Best Taco wagon to choose from La Monarca has won local community awards for best Taco wagon and the food is the Bomb.. I had a late lunch today and needed to make it quick and 5 tacos it was. this is a cash only stand and the service is real fast, they have numerous traditional mexican food they are in an old white panel truck setting in the parking lot off of West Rose across from Tumac Machinery. if you get a chance order the Taco's Walla Walla or Burrito's Walla Walla especially if you love grilled onions.
I had to rush these babies home so I could pour a fresh Cold Beer to wash them down with ..

The sun is out and man this weather is da kind.. just sittin around and we decided to go to Three Rivers Winery for some wine on the deck , Holly Turner has done an outstanding job on this 2008 Sauvignon Blanc release. This was a wonderful day nobody around and we had the deck all to ourselves, it was so quiet you could hear a cigarette burn, as we indulged in this wonderful bottle(s) of wine we couldn't help but take a few pics to share the experience of Three Rivers Winery's beautiful scenery and the experience of relaxation with the one you love while enjoying one of the best wines of the walla walla valley..

Business Lunch @ the Red Monkey.. No Problem

Need a place for a nice business lunch down town, well Red Monkey Downtown Lounge is an excellent Choice. I was Looking for something not as heavy as the Killer Sausage Dogs that I had earlier this week, and  had no problem finding what I needed on the Menu. The staff was very helpfull in helping me with my selection. the biggest task was deciding what Beer I was going to have, these guys have Plenty of Micro Brews as well as domestic light beers on tap. If your not into beer the Cocktail menu is pretty much endless, I had the Crunchy Chicken Wrap that was grilled panini style with a big portion of chips, since you had a choice of chips or fries I had both just to see what the fries were like. the fries were the most awesome skinny shoestring style that were not grease globs.. the atmosphere is very nice HD televisions everywhere, with semi private areas (available by reservation 509-522-3865 VIP 200-9639.) the workmanship of the inside design is second to none. I'm definitely coming back for St. Patrick's day for the live music and Beers.. Cheers!

The Quest for the Killer Hot Dog

Tim at Barnaby's found out I was looking for a killer hot dog and said he had the one, so I went up to Barnabys with some friends from Tri Cities and he showed us what he had. for those who dont know this, barnabys has good food and there is an area during the day that you can bring under aged children in to eat.. back to the food,  they brought out a 3/4lb all Beef Hot dog with melted cheese on it served with a plate of fries. this thing was a meal and very tasty you could get away with splitting one with a buddy. lots of cold beer with it and I was loving life.. this thing was huge the picture below was after we cut the end off to sample.
The Pizza at Barnaby's is very good also, they do not skimp on the toppings here

Old Business

Remember the Outrageous Taco right across from Hot Poop?  I sure miss that place, I think that was the only place downtown you could buy a burrito.  at the other end of  downtown there was the Can Ton Cafe upstairs . how cool was that.. anybody have a favorite?

Myra Road Interchange

So what do you think about the Myra Road Interchange? personally I cannot wait to see the round abouts finished, there are so many accidents on Hwy. 12 between Pine and last chance it is incredible. and this Summer we wont have to worry about the traffic stopped up and down 12.. the upgrades were rough but needed..

Lets Do it Again in 2010
